Little Girl Birthday Party Ideas: Themes, Activities, Food, and Small Details

The worst little girl birthday party I attended was a princess theme for a 10-year-old who was obsessed with soccer. The birthday girl walked in, looked at the pink decorations, and said “I like soccer, not princesses.” She spent the party kicking a ball in the yard. A little girl’s birthday should match her interests, not a generic template. If she likes princesses, throw a princess party. If she likes soccer, throw a soccer party. If she likes animals, throw an animal party. Ask her what she wants.

Little girl birthday party ideas are celebration plans for a young girl, ranging from princess themes to sports themes to animal themes depending on her interests. The best little girl birthday parties match her age and interests. The worst are chosen by the host based on what they think a little girl should want.

The short answer: ask her what she wants, then listen. Pick a theme that matches her interests. Buy two or three themed items. Fill the rest with solid colors. The rainbow birthday party decoration kit works for a colorful theme. The birthday party decoration kit works as a base.

Theme Ideas for Little Girls

The Princess Theme

Pink, gold, and white. A princess cake topper, a princess banner, and pink and gold plates. The theme is the princess. The flaw: not every girl likes princesses. Ask first.

The Animal Theme

Tan, brown, and green. An animal cake topper, an animal banner, and earthy color plates. The theme is the animals.

The Floral Theme

Pink, green, and white. A flower cake topper, a flower banner, and pink and green plates. The fairy birthday party decoration flower works for a floral theme.

The Sports Theme

Her favorite team colors. A sports cake topper, a sports banner, and team color plates. The theme is the sport.

The Rainbow Theme

Every color. A rainbow cake topper, a rainbow banner, and colorful plates. The rainbow birthday party decoration kit includes 489 pieces of colorful decorations.

The Mermaid Theme

Blue, green, and purple. A mermaid cake topper, a mermaid banner, and blue and green plates. The theme is the mermaid.

What to Avoid

Avoid the princess theme if she does not like princesses. Avoid the generic theme that does not match her interests. Avoid the over-decorated party with every themed item available. Two or three themed items and solid colors are enough.

The Verdict

A little girl birthday party works when it matches her age and interests. Ask her what she wants. Listen. A princess theme, an animal theme, a floral theme, a sports theme, a rainbow theme, or a mermaid theme. The most common mistake is choosing a theme based on what the host thinks a little girl should want. Ask her. She knows.
