Novelty Gifts for Adults: Picks That Are Funny and Useful
Novelty Gifts for Adults That Are Funny and Useful
A novelty gift is a gift that gets a laugh. The problem is that most novelty gifts get a laugh for 30 seconds and then sit in a drawer forever. A prank box, a gag mug, a novelty item that serves no purpose. The trick is finding something that is funny and useful, not just funny.
Novelty gifts for adults should be items that are funny and functional. The best novelty gifts are humorous items that get used, clever versions of everyday items, or games with a fun twist.
The short answer: the best novelty gifts for adults are humorous items that get used, clever versions of everyday items, or games with a fun twist. A wooden cribbage board from AMEROUS is a game that is fun and useful. A Capri Blue Volcano candle is a quality item with a fun blue jar that gets used.
Humorous Items That Get Used
A funny version of something that serves a real purpose. A mug with a joke that actually holds coffee, a sign with a funny message that actually hangs on a wall, or a useful item with a humorous design. These are gifts that get a laugh and then get used.
The advantage: funny and useful items get used after the laugh. The disadvantage: the humor is personal. What one person finds funny, another finds tacky.
Clever Versions of Everyday Items
A version of an everyday item with a clever twist. A tumbler with a funny label, a kitchen item with a witty design, or a useful item with a humorous detail. These are gifts that are functional first and funny second.
The advantage: clever items are useful and funny. The disadvantage: the cleverness can wear off.
Games With a Fun Twist
A game that is fun and social. A cribbage board, a card game with a twist, or a party game. These are gifts that get a laugh when opened and then get used for hours of entertainment.
The advantage: games provide ongoing entertainment. The disadvantage: not everyone likes games.

How to Choose
Think about the recipient’s sense of humor. If they like games, go game. If they like practical items, go clever everyday item. If they like a good laugh, go humorous item that gets used. The novelty gift should fit their humor and their life.
Budget for a novelty gift for adults is $15 to $35. A $20 game that gets played beats a $35 gag gift that sits in a drawer.
